Welcome to EducationCutsWatch
educationcutswatch is the site dedicated to monitoring the effects of the budget cuts announced by the SNP/Independent Administration at Highland Council.
We are appalled that services are being slashed and we will campaign to have the cuts reversed and to support your efforts locally.
Instead of reducing class sizes and expanding pre-school education, teachers are to be given early retirement, janitors and cleaners are to lose their jobs, there are to be cuts to headteacher budgets, and support for children with special needs is to be reduced.
And it is all totally unnecessary.
The Scottish Government has been given the largest budget in Scotland's history, twice that which Donald Dewar had just a few short years ago.
While the Council are making school cuts, they are banking council reserves of £17 million - for a purpose no one is sure about.
This site contains:
Updates on details of the cuts
Details on how you can register your concern at the threat to education services
Which Councillors voted for the cuts and which tried to stop them
What key Councillors have said about the ‘luxuries’ they are cutting in education
What we have done to raise the issues with the Council, Freedom of Information Requests we have made and our efforts in Parliament.
We want you to feel able to use this site to keep up to date with the campaign to reverse the cuts; report to us when your school is affected by the loss of a teacher, janitor, cleaner or when any visiting teacher posts are removed or vacancies frozen.
Use the site to tell others what you are doing locally.
Download our petition and collect signatures at the school gate and from other parents.
If you return it to us we will present it to the petitions committee of Parliament and send it to the Council.
e-mail us your cuts campaign photographs and videos
